The basic term, "targeting" (or geotargeting) means different things to different people even in the advertising arena, and unfortunately depending on who you speak with it the terminology can often cause confusion.

Precision Targeting The purpose of precision targeting is to get the right content seen by the right people. You want to get your content messages, ads in front of the right people, those likely to want to engage with it, and hopefully, who are the most likely to purchase or do something else that’s commercially valuable to your business in response to that advertisement. This is why precision targeting is important.

So let’s use the analogy of a dartboard once again – placing ads on a social media site with two and a half million users is likely to be as accurate as playing darts blindfolded. Where your ads end up and who they’re seen by is really going to be out of your control, determined by algorithms, and is not very likely to reach the audiences who would be interested in your ad.

Now consider the data available on consumers, such as age, location, gender, relationship, languages, education, work, their hobbies, and interests, and so on, and so on, and so on. The opportunity that precision targeting presents, being able to target audiences who would find your ads most appealing and relevant, therefore can be built off this technology that, that knows something about people. Targeting can therefore be really broad, as something like potential customers who live in a certain country or state. Or, if you desire, you can get as specific as potential customers who live in a certain area and may have shown interest in your brand on another platform, and so on.

Getting started with precision audience targeting
There are three (3) options for precision targeting: 

  1. If you have a list of individuals that you would like to use as part of your digital advertising project, we can use that list. All we need is their address (street, apartment number (if applicable), city, state, and zip code). P.O. boxes are not accepted. 
  2. If you do not have a list of individuals, we can use our database of over 320+ million records. Our basic voter database has been appended with hundreds of additional data attributes about each individuals, which can be used to target individual based on their interests, demographics, and other factors. 
  3. If you have a list of individuals that you would like to use as part of your digital advertising project, and you would also like to use selected records from our massive database, we can combine the two lists. This will allow you to target individuals who are most likely to be interested in your message.
